Searching for References Online

Procedure for search for references using online sources such as PubMed, IEEE, arXiv.org, and US patents.

Use this procedure to search for an import references from online servics from the Online Search

1. Open Online Searchfrom the Tools > Online Search ...menu
2. Choose the online reference service from the drop-down list - see Supported Online Reference Services
3. Enter search terms following the <Search Syntax> for the source chosen. The syntax for the reference source you have chosen appears in the instruction window on the right
4. Examine the number of references found for the search and decide if you want to import them all or not
5. Wait for the progress bar to indicate that references have been loaded. You will see them in the references list
6. Click Import into Synthesis to load the references into Synthesis
7. Return to Synthesis by clicking the Return to Synthesis button, or perform another search.
